It's not so predictable (unless you examine the GE in depth and understand how it works, and it's more fun just to hear how it behaves when you play it). It'll frustrate those who want 'paint by numbers' music, because it doesn't really do that. Why isn't it more popular? Well, it seems to be a little confusing when you first encounter it. But this way can be a time sink, especially if you have in mind a specific result. The categories and preset ideas are merely suggestions. To me, it's best to use the GEs inappropriately, rather than playing them with the Programs and use cases for which they were designed. It can be inspirational if you're in the mood to let the music lead you down new rabbit holes. It's fun to play, and fun for experimental explorations.
